How long does it take to complete an appraisal for insurance purposes?
Automotive Evolutions will consult with the owner of the vehicle and view the vehicle for approximately one to three hours.
What do we inspect for the appraisal?
Our appraiser will complete an external inspection of the vehicle. This includes determining the condition of the body, the frame, the interior, the paint, the exterior, the chassis, engine and transmission.
The exterior inspection includes examining the fenders, hood, trunk, doors, bumpers, roof, floors, frame and paint quality.
All glass, chrome trim parts, rubber seals, mirrors, handles, lighting, wiring, batteries are inspected.
Mechanical items like tires, rims, mufflers, engines, transmissions, gas tanks, brakes, suspension are visually inspected whenever possible.
The interior inspection includes the seat upholstery, the carpeting, the headliner, the door panels, radio, dash, and steering wheel.
If the vehicle is a convertible, our appraiser will inspect the top skin, the top padding, the headliner, the convertible top frame and top mechanism.
Our appraiser will note vehicle options, for example; power window, power locks, sunroof, power brakes, power seats, cruise control, air conditioning, heated seats, gauges, alarm, GPS, remote car starter, and more.
Our appraiser will not dismantle your vehicle or do any mechanical work on it.
Is this the same as a Mechanical Safety Inspection?
No, this is not the same as a mechanical safety inspection. We do not dismantle the car. If you wish we can also arrange a safety inspection and provide more in depth mechanical services such as a compression test on the engine as you require.
Can the appraiser use extra information on the vehicle?
We encourage the owner to provide us with photocopied documentation of original invoices showing work done on the vehicle. If the car is original, we ask the owner to provide photocopied documentation on the vehicle to show its originality. Our appraiser requires that any documents that you wish to be included in the appraisal be photocopied so that he has copies to show your insurance company in case they have any questions.
Do we take photos of the vehicle for an insurance appraisal?
Yes, we take photographs of your vehicle. On average, our appraiser takes between 10 to 30 professional, full colour, photographs of the vehicle.
We photograph the exterior of the vehicle from many sides and angles. We take photos of the interior, the engine, the trunk, and if possible the floors, frame and exhaust and any other notable features of the vehicle.
Do NOT accept one or two fuzzy Polaroid photographs that some other companies provide. If your vehicle was ever stolen or involved in a serious accident, you must have professional quality photographic evidence.
What type of report does Automotive Evolutions supply?
Both the owner of the vehicle and their insurance company will receive an emailed report that is individualized to that specific vehicle that is a combination of written material and the photographs.
When will my appraisal for insurance purposes be ready for pick up?
An appraisal for Insurance purposes will be emailed to the owner of the vehicle and their insurance company in 1-7 business days. Same day rush service may be available, please ask if there for pricing.

What is a Motor Vehicle Appraisal Record?
A "Motor Vehicle Appraisal Record" is a one page form that is supplied by the Ministry of Finance or your appraiser. This form is used to evaluate your vehicle for the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Transportation, OSAP applications and some other specific legal and financial applications.
Who can fill out the Motor Vehicle Appraisal Record?
Appraisers that are registered with the Ministry of Finance use this form to evaluate vehicles under the "Used Vehicle Information Program."
Do I need 2 appraisals, one Motor Vehicle Appraisal Record and one appraisal for Insurance Purposes?
Yes, it is possible that you may be required to get both types of appraisals, if both the Ministry and your insurance company request them.
Most insurance companies will not accept a Motor Vehicle Appraisal Record for their records.
You must ask your insurance company directly as policies vary between insurance companies. And conversely, the appraisal for Insurance Purposes is rarely accepted by the Ministry. Ask your local Ministry office to be sure.
In what other situations can a Motor Vehicle Appraisal Record be used?
This form is also applicable to students applying for OSAP who are required to have their vehicle appraised for their loan applications.
